Located just north of place du Châtelet, St James Tower stands at 54m tall, remaining as the only remnant of the 1523 Église St-Jacques la Boucherie, created by the powerful butchers guild to serve as a starting point for pilgrims beginning their journey to the shrine of St James at Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Visitors can take a guided 50-minute tour (available only in French; book online at www.desmotsetdesarts.com) that includes 300 stairs up to a remarkable view. Children must be 10 years or older to join.
