Description

Originally the church to the Louvre 's Royal Palace

St-Germain l'Auxerrois was the former church to the Louvre back when it was still a royal palace. It was originally constructed in the 12th Century, but today the only remaining architectural structure from that period is the bell tower. Over the years is has undergone many changes and renovations.

The major renovations made to St-Germain l’Auxerrois in the 15th Century gave the church the appearance that we know today. However, during the French Revolution, a time of much destruction in France, many of its furnishings were stolen and a great deal was destroyed. With the 19th Century came more renovations and it was once again transformed into a beautiful church. The bell tower, stained glass windows, and carved pews are all outstanding points of interest in this religious venue.
