Description
Since its construction in 1875, Sacré-Cœur has been a reminder of the political tension between the Catholic conservative party and the secular republicans of the time. Following the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune, the basilica was finally consecrated in 1919, looking down on a much changed bohemian lifestyle. To enjoy the spectacular view of Paris from Sacré-Cœur’s parvis, take the funicular up the hill with a regular metro ticket.
