Description
Today, Place de la Concorde is one of the major landmarks of Paris, with its obelisk and the fountains which decorate the square. When you stand in Place de la Concorde, Paris spreads out around you with views of the iconic Eiffel Tower, the meandering Seine, and the grand Champs-Élysées. The square, first set out in 1755 and named after King Louis XV, is now the largest in the city. Its 3300-year-old pink granite obelisk was a gift from Egypt in 1831, yet it was during the Revolution, in 1793, when this royal symbol first took center stage, as Louis XVI became the first to be guillotined here. Nowadays, Place de la Concorde is one of the major landmarks of Paris, with its imposing obelisk and the fountains which add to its attractiveness.
