Description

A small zoo located in the Jardin des Plantes

The Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes was the first and is the oldest zoological garden in the world. In 1808, keepers started housing large animals like elephants and eventually an area for predators and birds was added on. It’s a small zoo that's located within the Jardin des Plantes.

The Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes wasn’t always a pleasant place to visit. Animals and cages were not maintained properly, but today it is kept up beautifully. One of its best features is the “Microzoo” where children can study insects and other small animals in a learning environment. There are also many other animals on display including deer, bison, and various birds.
