Description

Since its opening in 1804, Père Lachaise has become the world's most visited cemetery. Spanning 44 hectares, the cemetery boasts over 70,000 ornate tombs of the rich and famous, forming a verdant sculpture garden. Among the highlights include the tombs of 1960s rock star Jim Morrison in Division 6 and Irish playwright Oscar Wilde in Division 89. To make the most of the cemetery, make sure to pick up a map from the conservation office near the entrances of bd de Ménilmontant and rue du Repos.
