Picasso Museum Paris tickets open the doors of the Musée National Picasso-Paris, housed in the Hôtel Salé, a handsome mansion in the Marais. The building is worth a look on its own, a grand townhouse that now holds one of the most complete records of how Picasso worked.
The collection spans paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and illustrated books from the main periods of his career, and more than 5,000 works in all. Alongside them are tens of thousands of archive pieces: studies, drafts, notebooks, etchings in different stages, photographs, films and historical documents. Together they show an artist who kept reinventing his own language.
The ticket is an entry only, with no guide, and the visit is yours to pace, whether you already know his work well or are meeting it for the first time. Check the museum's opening days before you go: it closes on some public holidays, and the garden shuts in winter.
