Description
No public transport goes to Giverny directly, so a Giverny day trip from Paris by coach is the practical way to reach Monet's village. The coach leaves through the western districts of Paris, takes the Normandy motorway as far as Bonnières, crosses the Seine at Vernon and reaches the village over the wooded plateaus of the Eure. The whole excursion takes about five hours.
Monet lived in Giverny for 43 years, and he shaped the house and its colourful garden as if they were a painting. You see the house, the flowerbeds and the water garden, with its weeping willows and the famous water lilies. The house became a public museum in 1980, after his son left it to the Académie des Beaux-Arts and it was restored.
